Even ChatGPT won't be able to come up with the kinds of ideas you'll get from The Blog Post Inspiration Deck
I created The Blog Post Inspiration Deck because I was heavy into blogging—for myself and for my clients. Generative AI wasn't a thing yet. And I was tired, so tired, of researching information and finding the same boring, generic content on just about every website I visited.
See, as a blogger and a teacher of blogging—I used to run the Blog Your Brilliance online program—I knew that what stands out most in the eyes of search engines is unique, original content, content no one else on the internet could match. That's still the case today. In fact, with generative AI and its AI-slop content in the picture, unique content is all the more necessary.
Sure, as I writer, I knew how to develop that kind of unique content. But so many other people did not. That's why I created The Blog Post Inspiration Deck. It helps you reach into your personal and professional life and find nuggets of information you can use to blog—or to create ANY type of content, really!
How it works
There are 20 each of three suits of cards: Type, Topic, and Vibe.
- Type cards represent different types of blog posts—roundup blog posts, review blog posts, behind-the-scenes blog posts, that sort of thing.
- Topic cards represent topics you can write about—a bit of practical advice, a customer question, a recent email.
- Vibe cards represent the spirit of your content, like zeal or abundance. Use vibe cards as the spirit from which you create the content, or the spirit you wish your audience to feel as they consume it.
Overall, that gives you 20 x 20 x 20 — or 8,000 possible content ideas, enough to keep you producing content each day for the next 22 years! (Granted, you likely won't do that, but it's still cool to realize how much is packed into this simple deck.
Gameplay
Playing is simple. Separate the cards into three piles, one pile for each suit. Shuffle each pile and then draw one from each suit for a unique way to gain inspiration and ideas for your next piece of content, whether it's a blog post, a YouTube video, a LinkedIn carousel, or an Instagram story.
For instance, suppose you draw the following cards:
As you'll discover when you explore the ebook that accompanies the deck, a roundup post--or roundup content--is a collection of related quotes, links, or other things you've gathered to share with your tribe. A recent email is just what it sounds like—an email that's sitting in your inbox right now. And zeal is passionate enthusiasm.
Here are a few possible title ideas I see for my content when drawing those three cards:
- Look what I dug up! A roundup of forgotten but fabulous content
- (Type = roundup, Topic = email)
- Four design experts on how to dress your next PDF for success
- (Type = roundup, topic = email)
- In pursuit of better web experiences: A Valentine's Day letter to the world (Topic = email, Vibe = zeal)
Your ideas will differ because they'll be based on YOUR business and life.
Notice that each post idea need not contain content from all three suits. You might use a single suit, two suits, or all three. The point is to open your mind to new inspiration and ideas that you might not have thought of otherwise. And certainly ideas that ChatGPT won't be able to suggest!
